La Dent Blanche (4357 m) is one of the most striking 4000-meter peaks in the Swiss Alps. Climbing it via the South Ridge Normal Route - Wandfluegrat is a classic alpine rock and mixed route, offering an exposed and technical ascent with breathtaking views over the Pennine Alps. Dent Blanche mountaineering experience

Climbing La Dent Blanche via the South Ridge Normal Route - Wandfluegrat (4357 m), in the western Pennine Alps in the canton of Valais, is an extremely exciting mountaineering experience that takes place in two days. It is a true alpine adventure on one of the most beautiful peaks in the Alps, technical but accessible, perfect for experienced climbers looking for a classic, exposed ridge. The summit offers breathtaking views over the Matterhorn, Weisshorn, and the Mont Blanc range.

Day one - Approach to Cabane de la Dent Blanche
The appointment with the mountain guide for the equipment check is at the Crèvacol ski area and transfer to Switzerland or appointment directly at Ferpècle (Sion CH). The approach starts from Ferpècle (1895 m), following a long, steep trail over glacial moraines. The ascent to the Cabane de la Dent Blanche (3507 m) or Cabane Rossier takes 5-6 hours with a 1700 meters elevation gain, with stunning views over the glaciers and surrounding peaks. The Cabane de la Dent Blanche hut is an excellent base for the climb and offers a great alpine atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

Day two - Dent Blanche summit via the South Ridge
From the refuge, the climb starts before dawn, around 4 am to ensure firm conditions on the snow and rock. The summit of Dent Blanche along the South Ridge Normal route, can be reached in about 6 hours with an elevation gain of 850 meters.

Key Sections:
Slabs and steeper climbing (III+, IV UIAA) - some sections may require belaying.
Snow and ice traverses - depending on conditions, crampons and an ice axe may be needed.
Final ridge to the summit - an exposed, spectacular traverse leading to the Dent Blanche summit cross (4357 m).

The descent is along the same route with an elevation loss of 2550 meters. The ascent and descent takes approximately 14/16 hours.
