Piz Palù (3900 m) is one of the most beautiful peaks in the Bernina Range, known for its three main summits and elegant snow ridges. The Piz Palù Normal route follows a glacier ascent, crossing crevasses and steep slopes to reach the main summit. This route is of moderate alpine difficulty (PD), with snow and ice slopes up to 40° inclination.

Piz Palù Normal Route

Climbing Piz Palù Normal Route is an extraordinary mountaineering experience for all alpinists, a unique journey through one of the most beautiful and iconic mountains of the Central Alps. It is a classic and breathtaking ascent in the heart of the Bernina Range. A relatively short and direct route, perfect for those looking for a high-altitude experience without technical rock climbing. The summit offers an incredible panoramic views over the entire Bernina Range and beyond.

Route Overview:

Day 01: approach to Marinelli Hut
Start from the Campo Moro Reservoir (Lanzada, Valmalenco - 1829 m).
Ascend passing the Carate Brianza Hut (2636 m) and Bocchetta delle Forbici and then reaching the Marinelli Hut (2813 m). Dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.
Elevation gain about 1000 meters - 3/4 hours.

Day 02: Piz Palù Normal route
Depart at dawn from the hut and reach the Marinelli Pass at about 3100 meters, where the glacier session begins.
The route follows glacial slopes with steep sections and crevasses that require careful navigation, reaching first the Sassi Rossi Pass at 3504 meters and then Belleviste Pass at 3694 meters.
Upon reaching the summit ridge, follow the snow track along exposed sections leading to the main peak of Piz Palù (3900 m).
From the summit, enjoy stunning panoramic views of Piz Bernina, Biancograt, Bellavista, and the entire Engadin region.
Elevation gain about 1080 meters - 4/5 hours.
Return via the ascent route.
